Things Astronauts Probably Won't Miss About Earth

Travelling into space sounds extraordinary. Imagine floating weightlessly, watching Earth from orbit and witnessing breathtaking cosmic scenery.

But astronauts might also appreciate escaping a few everyday annoyances.

At least temporarily!

Traffic Jams

Forget sitting behind hundreds of cars during the morning commute.

Astronauts aboard the International Space Station travel around Earth at approximately 28,000 kilometres per hour.

Unfortunately, travelling that quickly doesn’t mean they can simply pop home for lunch.

Mosquitoes

No buzzing insects interrupting your sleep!

Spacecraft environments are carefully controlled, so astronauts don’t generally have to worry about mosquitoes hovering around their sleeping quarters.

That’s one small victory for humanity.

Noisy Neighbours

Nobody upstairs dragging furniture across the floor at midnight.

Although spacecraft contain fans, pumps and other equipment that generate continuous background noise.

Perhaps space isn’t quite as peaceful as it looks.

Washing the Dishes

In microgravity, astronauts don’t use conventional sinks filled with water.

Unfortunately, this doesn’t mean cleaning disappears. Spacecraft hygiene requires special procedures, and meals often involve carefully managed packaging.

Monday Morning Commutes

You might escape traffic, but you certainly won’t escape work!

Astronauts follow demanding schedules involving scientific experiments, equipment maintenance, exercise and operational responsibilities.

Even space explorers have busy Mondays.

Perhaps Earth Isn’t So Bad

Despite its traffic, insects and endless household chores, Earth offers something extraordinary: fresh air, natural landscapes, oceans and the freedom to take a simple walk outdoors.

After months in orbit, even the most frustrating earthly experiences might seem strangely comforting.

What everyday annoyance would you happily leave behind if you travelled into space?
